How to Enforce a Mandatory Mobile Number Format
To maintain clean and accurate customer records, you may want to prevent your staff from saving incomplete phone numbers. By enabling the Mobile Format Mandatory setting, your point-of-sale (POS) system will automatically validate customer phone numbers, ensuring they meet a minimum length requirement (8 digits) before an order or profile can be processed.
Part 1: Enabling the Mandatory Format
Follow these steps to turn on the mobile number validation rule.
- Navigate to your main Settings and open the POS Global Settings window.
- Scroll through the settings to locate the option labeled Mobile Format Mandatory.
*[Image: POS Global Settings window highlighting the Mobile Format Mandatory toggle switch]* - Click the toggle switch to enable it (turn it ON).
- Click the Save Settings button in the bottom right corner of the window to apply your changes.
Part 2: How the Validation Works in the POS
Once enabled, the system will actively monitor the phone numbers entered into the customer search and registration fields.
- Return to your main POS dashboard.
- Click on the top search bar and attempt to enter a new customer mobile number that is less than 8 digits long.
- The system will immediately block the entry and display an alert message stating: "Mobile number format is incorrect, You have to enter the mobile number in this format."
*[Image: Warning pop-up alert showing the incorrect mobile number format error message]* - Click OK to close the alert. The staff member will be required to enter a valid, standard-length mobile number to proceed with adding or selecting the customer.
Disabling the Feature
If you regularly deal with custom, shortened, or placeholder numbers and find this restriction unhelpful, simply return to the POS Global Settings and toggle Mobile Format Mandatory OFF. Once disabled, the system will allow you to save customer profiles using any sequence of numbers, regardless of length, without triggering an error pop-up.
